The Security and Compliance Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning of a vision relating to the security of the infrastructure and enforcement of the policies and procedures surrounding it. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure .This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational security values promoting a secure environment.

This individual will assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Linux and Windows systems that support infrastructure; network appliances, Linux, Windows and Application systems that support Asset Management; Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

This individual will provide advanced project management skills to medium or large size projects and apply best practices to all deployable efforts. In each project, track deliverables to ensure timely deployment. This individual may have others assisting with a common goal and should provide direction to ancillary administrators to bring forth a successful results.

This position requires mentoring and guidance to other staff within the department. The individual will provide advanced technical capabilities to other positions to ensure compliance with departmental goals and continual compliance with industry security standards and best practices. This position will require effort to be directly applied to other staffs projects and responsibilities to aid in their development.

Security Administration Duties

  • Daily review of Firewall Security Logs
  • Assist in remediation and scheduling of Firewall deficiencies
  • Daily review of Anti-Virus Logs
  • Assist in remediation and scheduling of Anti-Virus deficiencies
  • Daily review of intrusion prevention and detection logs
  • Assist in remediation and scheduling of intrusion prevention and detection
  • Daily review of Server Logs
  • Assist in the remediation and scheduling of Server issues
  • Engineering of system administration related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Install and configure systems such as supports infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications.
  • Enforce and comply with licensing compliance.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Provision storage as needed to the infrastructure
  • Manage infrastructure appliances as needed

Operations and Support

  •  Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security and vulnerability monitoring using provided tools to identify any possible intrusions or weaknesses.
  • Review daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Provide an escalation path, or other support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Other items as needed or required


  • Advanced understanding of intrusion prevention and detection technologies.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking
  • Intermediate to Advanced understanding of all server platforms
  • Advanced understanding of domain disciplines.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Five to seven years security administration experience.


  • Position deals with a variety of problems and sometime has to decide which answer is best. The question/issues are typically clear and requires determination of which answer (from a few choices) is the best. Position should consult with other levels of administration for alternative options or technologies. This position should be a leader in technological expertise.


  • Functions as an independent worker doing the work similar to those in the work unit; responsibility for training, instruction, setting the work pace, and possibly evaluating performance.
  • No budget responsibility other than contribution to following year plans.
  • Functions as a technical \ logistical resources for all members of the department

  • Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.


  • Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little or no advanced notice.
